How to Follow Up on a Gutter Quote
Gutters are a lower-ticket, easy-to-delay job — until it rains. Homeowners get a quote, figure the old ones will hold one more season, and go quiet. That "it can wait" mindset is exactly why follow-up wins gutter jobs: a couple of well-timed nudges catch them right when the next storm reminds them.
When to send the first gutter follow-up
About 48 hours after the estimate. Long enough that they've thought it over, short enough that you're still top of mind. Because gutters feel non-urgent, your follow-up is what keeps the job from sliding to "someday."
A weather angle works well here: "wanted to get you booked before the [fall leaves / rainy season]" is honest and gives a low-urgency job a real reason to move.
What to actually say
Don't send "just checking in." Give a reason:
"Hi [name] — wanted to make sure the gutter estimate came through and see if you had any questions. Happy to get you on the schedule before the weather turns if you're ready. No rush either way."
Helpful, specific, and tied to a reason to act.
How many times to follow up
Gutter contractors lose more jobs to "it can wait" than to price. The booking usually comes on touch two or three — often right after a heavy rain reminds them:
- Day 1: estimate sent, "take your time."
- Day 3: soft check-in + offer to answer questions.
- Day 7: easy-out nudge ("still want me to hold this pricing?").
- Day 14: scheduling/scarcity ("booking before [season] — want a slot?").
- Day 21: value touch — a weather or maintenance reason to go now.
- Day 30: the graceful close.
(Exact wording is in our contractor follow-up text templates and estimate follow-up emails.)
The honest problem for gutter contractors
Gutter jobs are quick to do and easy to forget to chase — they're low-ticket, so they slip behind the bigger work. But a pile of forgotten $1-2k jobs is real money. Following up on every one, on time, just isn't something you'll hold in your head between bigger installs.
QuoteChaser runs the full Day 1 → Day 30 sequence by text and email for every gutter estimate, keeps it inside sensible hours, and pings you the second a customer says yes. You quote the job; it chases every quiet lead so none slip.
