How to Follow Up on a Window Quote
Replacement windows are a high-ticket, heavily-shopped, slow-decision purchase. Homeowners get multiple bids, weigh energy savings against the cost, and often need financing. That long decision cycle is exactly why follow-up wins window jobs more than price — the contractor who stays present and helpful through the wait is the one who signs.
When to send the first window follow-up
About 48 hours after the estimate. They've started comparing bids and the number has settled in. Your follow-up keeps you on the short list before the decision drags out and goes cold.
Lean on the value math — energy savings, rebates, financing. On a window job, a quick line about long-term savings or an available rebate is more persuasive than a discount, and it gives them a reason to act now.
What to actually say
"Just checking in" wastes the touch. Anchor it:
"Hi [name] — wanted to make sure the window estimate landed and answer anything before you compare bids. Happy to break down the energy savings or the rebate/financing side if that helps you decide. No rush."
Now you've offered value, not a nudge.
How many times to follow up
Window contractors lose big jobs to slow decisions and silence, not usually to price. The signed contract often comes on touch four or five — after financing clears, after the spouse agrees, after the other guy goes quiet:
- Day 1: estimate sent, "take your time, big decision."
- Day 3: soft check-in + offer to clarify savings or options.
- Day 7: easy-out nudge ("still want me to hold this pricing?").
- Day 14: scheduling/scarcity ("booking installs for [season] — want me to pencil you in?").
- Day 21: value touch — a rebate deadline, financing option, or energy-savings note.
- Day 30: the graceful close (worth one more around day 45 for a job this size).
(Exact wording is in our contractor follow-up text templates and estimate follow-up emails.)
The honest problem for window contractors
You're running installs and consults all day, then quoting at night. A window decision can take weeks — and somewhere in there the Day-21 follow-up falls off because you're buried. That's a high-ticket job lost to a forgotten text. Tracking every open bid through a long cycle, on time, just isn't something memory does.
QuoteChaser runs the full Day 1 → Day 30+ sequence by text and email for every window estimate, keeps it inside sensible hours, and pings you the moment a homeowner says yes so you can lock the install. You quote the job; it nurtures every bid through the decision.
