How to Follow Up on a Plumbing Quote
Plumbing has two worlds: the burst pipe at 11pm that books before you hang up, and the planned job — repipe, water heater, bathroom reno, sewer line — that gets a quote and then sits. The planned work is the bigger ticket, and it's the work that quietly goes to whoever stayed in touch.
When to send the first plumbing follow-up
Within 48 hours of the estimate. For a non-emergency, the homeowner is weighing your number against "can the old water heater limp through another winter." Your follow-up keeps the replace-now decision warm before they default to waiting.
If it's a replacement, a quick line about the risk of waiting (a failing heater, a slow leak getting worse) is honest and gives them a real reason to move.
What to actually say
Skip "just following up." Give them a reason:
"Hi [name] — wanted to confirm the estimate for the [water heater/repipe/bathroom] landed and see if you had any questions. Happy to explain the options or the timeline if that helps you decide. No pressure either way."
That's helpful, not naggy — and it invites a real reply.
How many times to follow up
Most plumbers follow up once and move on. But planned jobs run on the homeowner's clock — payday, a tax refund, the leak finally getting annoying. The yes usually lands on touch three or four:
- Day 1: estimate sent, "take your time."
- Day 3: soft check-in + offer to clarify options.
- Day 7: easy-out nudge ("want me to hold this pricing?").
- Day 14: scheduling/scarcity ("booking [month] now — want a slot?").
- Day 21: value touch — financing, warranty, or the cost of waiting.
- Day 30: the graceful close.
(Exact wording is in our contractor follow-up text templates and estimate follow-up emails.)
The honest problem for plumbing shops
Between service calls, the planned-job quotes are the ones that slip. You meant to text the repipe lead back, and by the time you remember, they've called the next plumber. The follow-up isn't hard — doing it for every open quote, on time, while you're under a sink, is.
QuoteChaser runs the full Day 1 → Day 30 sequence by text and email for every plumbing estimate, sends inside sensible hours, and alerts you the moment a customer says yes so you can book it. You quote the job; it keeps every bid warm.
