How to Follow Up on a Drywall Quote

Drywall work comes from two places: homeowners doing a repair or finishing a space, and GCs or builders subbing out a phase. Both go quiet for the same reason — the job's timing depends on something else (a reno schedule, a budget, another trade). Your follow-up is what keeps you first in line when they're finally ready.

When to send the first drywall follow-up

About 48 hours after the estimate. Long enough that they've slotted it into their plan, short enough that you're still the one they remember when the timing lines up.

For repair/finish work, a homeowner is weighing it against other projects. For GC work, the job hinges on their schedule. Either way, a low-key check-in keeps you top of the list without pressure.

What to actually say

Skip "just checking in." Give a reason:

"Hi [name] — wanted to make sure the drywall estimate came through and see where you're at on timing. Happy to hold a spot or work around your schedule whenever you're ready. No rush."

Helpful, and it acknowledges that drywall timing usually depends on the bigger picture.

How many times to follow up

Drywall contractors lose jobs to timing and silence more than price. The booking often comes on touch three or four — when the reno's ready, when the budget clears, when the other trade finishes:

(Exact wording is in our contractor follow-up text templates and estimate follow-up emails.)

The honest problem for drywall contractors

You're hanging and finishing all day, then quoting at night. The Day-14 follow-up on a job that was waiting on someone else's timeline is the first thing to drop — and by the time the customer's ready, they've called whoever stayed in touch. Tracking every open bid, on time, just isn't something memory handles when you're slammed.

QuoteChaser runs the full Day 1 → Day 30 sequence by text and email for every drywall estimate, keeps it inside sensible hours, and pings you the second a customer says yes. You quote the job; it chases every quiet lead so none slip.
